Typography

Our Typefaces

When used correctly, typography can convey image and feeling every bit as much — and sometimes more — than simple graphics. We’ve selected two modern and humanist-style typefaces that help support our brand cornerstones (simplicity, empathy, and expertise). Use typeface, type size, and type weight wisely to establish a clear hierarchy of information. Ubuntu font conveys precision, reliability and effortlessness. It is paired beautifully with Open Sans. The open forms and upright stress seen in Open Sans allows for a sans serif font that has high readability, clarity, and friendly appearance.

Ubuntu is Unum’s primary type family and should be used whenever possible to communicate key brand messages in headlines and display copy. Ubuntu is accompanied by Open Sans (for use as a “reader” font in blogs and long form text) and Ubuntu (for use when a monospace, fixed width font is needed).

DO

  • Let it breathe: Use ample line height and paragraph spacing for easily scannable copy.
  • Use only the approved font families. We’ve chosen our typefaces carefully. They offer quite a bit of flexibility, so stick with them and they will treat you right.

DON'T

  • Track to extremes: A small adjustment to help balance space is great. Stretching that headline across the page is not.
